Overall really delicious sushi and ambiance for a reasonable price for the city. I've always walked past there and never dropped in due to the surrounding location but I'm glad I was introduced to it! Service was lovely and the ambiance was pleasant for a date night. It is a bit smaller, but we were able to get in around 8:45 on a Friday night. Will be back!

Walking by the happen to flip the sign that they were "open". We decided it would be good we were the first customers. Ambiance is great very clean inside. The food was super fresh and delicious, service was excellent. This place was really good and a great find

Located on the cusp of Chinatown and North Beach, this small Japanese restaurant is a hidden gem. With few seats, if possible would suggest calling ahead to get a spot at the counter which is the perfect spot to experience the omakase dinner. I would recommend getting the 10 piece set which offers a variety of high quality, handmade nigiri from bluefin otoro to hamachi, well worth the slightly higher price point. Additionally with the inclusion of mackerel to wagyu beef and uni with salmon roe and caviar, the omakase set provides a wide variety of fresh seafood to experience. Don't let the size or location fool you - Sushi Chef offers excellent sushi at a reasonable price that is as good if not better than many other spots in the city.

This place doesn't feel too busy, but that's moreso a reflection of the ambiance. It's a quieter spot with the tables fairly spreadout. We ordered the sashimi platter ($48), the fish is fresh with somewhat thicker cuts, and big portions. The sake menu is limited but has some tasty choices. Got some uni nigiri and scallop nigiri which were very delicious. The Toro roll that we ordered was an interesting combo of flavors but really grew on me after the first bite. Also, they use fresh wasabi here instead od horseradish! We were mostly left alone to chat and eat, and it was really easy to flag someone down for a little extra ginger. This kind of service works well for this type of place. Great spot and would visit again.

good neighborhood spot with bar seating and tables Friendly service Affordable omakase with a good variety of pieces to try (wagyu, o toro, uni) Rolls are also pretty tasty - we got the dynamite and spider rolls (spider roll was only 5 pieces but the combined ingredients were tasty)
